Heritage Overview

Heritage helps us define who we are as individuals and lets us explore our place within our local community

Microfiche Heritage has much to contribute to local life. A recent study by the Heritage Lottery Fund on The Values and Benefits of Heritage (April 2016) demonstrates many positive ways in which it can, through museums, archives, galleries and libraries and through the historic and natural environment improve all our lives including:

  • Contributing to the economy by attracting people to the area to live and visit
  • Enhancing well-being and improving quality of life through providing opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment
  • Giving a sense of achievement and purpose to those more actively involved
  • Encouraging social cohesion within communities through developing a sense of place and collective identity

We aspire to promote and use our heritage to its full potential by exploring ways in which our resources can contribute to local and national projects and initiatives and by providing opportunities for people to participate, enjoy and learn. We will look for new ways to reach people by harnessing developing technologies to make our collections more accessible.
