Classes offer swimmers the opportunity to progress to club level
Junior swimfit swimming lessons have proved a success story at Eastwood High Sports Centre for Abigail Asher, Zia Afzal and Maddie Paterson.
Abigail (10), Zia (11) and Maddie (7) have successfully completed the highly successful Learn 2 Swim programme and now attend the junior swimfit lessons at Eastwood High Sports Centre. With the help of the instructor Rory McCord they have now not only progressed in the programme but have also been promoted into the second level in the local swimming club, Ren 96, where they have just competed in their first competition at the beginning of the month.
The extremely popular Junior Swimfit class was started in 2014 by swimming instructor Rory McCord, a former swimmer and club coach. The classes benefit a number of children who are dedicated swimmers looking to perfect their swimming skills and abilities to progress on to club level.
Karen Baxter, Team Leader Swimming Development said "Rory works very hard with the children to further enhance strength/stamina, stroke technique, turns, breathing and streamlining, concentrating on all aspects associated with club training".
Because Rory is a former swimmer he knows that to become a club swimmer requires dedication and commitment, abilities which Rory works very hard to instil in his young swimmers in Junior Swimfit every week."
The class includes a range of swimming abilities, from children who have just completed the Learn 2 Swim Scheme to amateur swimming club swimmers looking for an extra session or former swimmers looking to carry on the sport. The class is run to the ability of each child and reinforces the link between the Learn 2 programme and the swimming club.
Due to the popularity of this class, more sessions have been introduced.
