The exhibition - on Thursday, March 10 between 1pm and 7.30pm - includes old photographs, a film about Armitage Shanks in the 1970s and 80s, memorabilia from the Shanks factory and a display created by pupils from St Luke's High School.

Founded in the mid-19th century by John Shanks, the company grew to become a thriving sanitary ware business at the forefront of innovation and design. The company not only provided employment for local people, but also played a significant part in shaping the social and economic life of the town.

Anthony McReavy, Chief executive of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure - the organisation that runs sports, leisure and cultural services in the area -said: "This is going to be a fantastic exhibition, which is part of Local History Week and I've no doubt it will be of a huge interest to many people from the Barrhead area and beyond.
"There are lots of very interesting stories about Shanks and you can still find their products in every corner of the globe.
"For example, Shanks supplied and fitted all the sanitary ware on the Titanic and cruise ships, the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth."

Anthony added: "The modern leisure centre where the exhibition is taking place - Barrhead Foundry - stands partly on the site of the first Tubal Works, which was the original factory complex of Shanks and Co.
"For all these stories and more, the exhibition is well worth a visit."
