Library team praised for prestigious award win
East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald put down the motion after the library won a prestigious national UK award for the innovative way it provides its service to the public. The MP's motion applauded the library's "innovative and inviting use of targeted library space".
The Barrhead Foundry - run by East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure - won a 2016 Edge Award recognising the outstanding building, layout and use of targeted space for the library service.
Anthony McReavy, Chief Executive of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure - the organisation that runs sports, leisure and cultural services in the area - said:
"It's very heartening that the hard work and dedication of our library staff at Barrhead Foundry has been recognised not only with a national award, but in the House of Commons with this Early Day Motion.
"We'll always strive to provide the best library service and facilities for the people of East Renfrewshire. And we aim to make all our libraries an attractive and welcoming place for people of all ages to visit."
The full text of the motion, which has been backed by MPs the length and breadth of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland and England, reads:
"That this House congratulates the team at the library at Barrhead Foundry on winning a prestigious The Edge Award for the innovative way that it provides its service to the public; applauds the innovative and inviting use of targeted library space within the Foundry.
