The school has been presented with the prestigious sportscotland Gold School Sport Award.

This award demonstrates that the school is at the top of their game when it comes to providing quality physical education and sports activities both during and outside school hours. Busby Primary is helped to deliver their top class sports activities by East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure's Active Schools programme and they are the ninth school in the area to be awarded Gold status. There are five schools in East Renfrewshire who have the Silver Award and seven others currently going through the rigorous assessment process.

The School Sport Award is a national initiative designed to encourage schools to continuously improve the quality and quantity of physical education and sporting opportunities for pupils. It also encourages sporting links between schools and their local communities.

Anthony McReavy, Chief Executive of East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure - the organisation that runs sports, leisure and cultural services in the area - said: "Well done to the pupils, staff and parents at Busby Primary, who along with our Active Schools Co-ordinators, have done a fantastic job in gaining this Gold award from sportscotland.

"As an organisation we're very pro-active in encouraging people of all ages to become more active and healthy and taking part in sport is one way of doing that.

"Hopefully getting children involved in sport at an early age will see them take that healthy living culture into their adulthood and throughout their lives."

All the pupils at Busby Primary were in the school's gym hall to see the Gold School Sport Award certificate and flag being presented by sportscotland partnership manager, Jane Leavey.
