The highly successful 'Tennis on the Road' programme made a welcomed stop in Barrhead recently.
Tennis on the Road is run by Kris Soutar who's aim is to expand the game of tennis throughout Scotland. They travel with a van full of equipment, training plans and ideas to deliver workshops to parents, coaches and teachers who will in turn inspire the next generation of Scottish Tennis players.
Organised in partnership with ERCL Active Schools, Barrhead High School was the venue for the team where Kris delivered to not only senior pupils from Barrhead High, but senior pupils from neighbouring St. Luke's High. The pupils were provided with tips and tricks with regard to them looking to develop the skills of young tennis players between the age of 5 and 12 years old.
Primary 4 pupils from Carlibar Primary school were also invited along to the event at Barrhead High, where the senior pupils got the opportunity to put their new knowledge into practice and develop their sports leadership skills.
The event was a great success with children, parents and pupils all getting involved in the fun. The activities are simple and easy to run yet great for starting out and progressing with tennis.
For more information on what sport and physical activities are on offer in the Barrhead area, including tennis, you can email Gary McGunnigle, Active School Coordinator (Barrhead High Cluster) or call 07800 629705.
The pupils really enjoyed the various tennis activities, it was well organised and ran smoothly. Our thanks to the Tennis on the Road coaches and our Active School Coordinator, Gary McGunnigle, for such a fantastic day!
Mr Moffat, Teacher, Carlibar Primary
I enjoyed it as I got to work with younger children and show them what to do and it was really good fun. I would recommend anyone to do it as you got to learn loads of fun drills.
