Over the summer East Renfrewshire Libraries played host to 'Going to the Pictures' a touring display from the National Library of Scotland telling the story of Scotland's memories of cinema through their printed and moving image collections.
Visitors enjoyed browsing the display as it toured around Barrhead, Mearns, Clarkston and Giffnock Libraries and the content provided the inspiration for some great events organised by the Libraries and Arts & Heritage Teams.
Screenings of local film-maker Tom Marchant's nostalgic 'Nights at the Pictures' received a warm response at Barrhead Foundry and Giffnock Library, bringing back lots of memories for participants who also enjoyed looking at all the items in the 'Projectionist's case' handling box which accompanied the display.
Primary 6 pupils from Braidbar Primary School were also treated to a workshop in Giffnock Library delivered by the National Library of Scotland's Moving Image Archive. The class were given the opportunity to view and discuss old films, handle museum objects and create their own moving images.
