Going Underground: Giffnock and Clarkston
Thursday 9th October, 1pm to 2.30pm
This event takes place in Eastwood House
A Heritage talk by Dr. Stuart Nisbet
Giffnock Sandstone can be seen in many local buildings and probably to its best effect in the stunning interior of Kelvingrove Museum. This talk will cover not only the story of this famous sandstone, but also the surprising tale of other valuable minerals, and how they were dug out from beneath the local area.
Join us for an exploration of the hidden underground history of Giffnock and Clarkston. Local historian Dr. Stuart Nisbet has spent decades digging into the history of the ground beneath our feet, and this illustrated talk distils his experience gained over many years of walks and talks.
