WEDNESDAY 23RD – SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER, 7.30PM

SATURDAY MATINEE, 2.30PM

Grief is a visitor that stays too long.

Over 36 years after the terror bombing of an airliner that crashed in Lockerbie, Giffnock Theatre Players present the play The Women of Lockerbie, which explores the grief and lasting impact left in the wake of the crash.

This play by celebrated playwright Deborah Brevoort – recipient of the Onassis International Playwriting Award for New Plays – is based on events surrounding the terrorist bombing of Flight Pan Am 103, which crashed in the town of Lockerbie just days before Christmas 1988.

The production pays homage to the heart and humanity of the local people by depicting the efforts of a US mother who roams the hills looking for her son’s remains while the Lockerbie women support her and her husband, while also seeking to wash thousands of pieces of clothing from the wreckage as an act of cleansing. The US government refuses to release the clothes but the women battled back through the media.
