Home Heritage Walk – Mines and Mysteries

Thursday 9th May, 6.30pm

This Heritage Walk begins at Giffnock Library

Led by Dr. Stuart Nisbet, as well as looking at Braidbar Sandstone Quarries, this walk will tell the story of how Giffnock’s limestone and fireclay were quarried and mined to produce fertiliser and drains, to improve Giffnock’s farmland.

The walk is ‘stand-alone’ but will complement our Heritage class, Giffnock: What lies beneath? and our Heritage walk, Giffnock: Fire and Brimstone which are bookable separately.

Further Information:

The walks will be around 1.5 hours long and we advise participants to wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. The walks may be postponed/cancelled in the event of extreme weather, in which case a refund or rebooking option will be offered. Please note, the exact duration of the walks can vary slightly. We regret we cannot accommodate pets on this walk.
